Downham Market Coffee Afternoon

So What Have We Done Over The Last Year.

English and Maths Classes are going well and we are all getting better and stronger each month.

The Compass group is again on a high and we have made our list for 2012, I will put this up so everyone can see the places and events we will do over next year.

The Allotment we started this year is now all quiet and we are putting together our planting plan for next spring. We want to do some flowers as well as food.

This year we did quite a few stalls, both selling stuff we had made and giving out information about our group. All these were very good and we thank Penny from the NCODP for putting on some pf them so we could meet with other groups.

In January we are staring a coffee Afternoon group in Downham Market, we are doing this with MENCAP and we all think this will be a very good thing. We like to work with other groups, its fun.

Our sports group has some new members and this runs on a Friday afternoon, we play badminton. We hope this will continue next year but have to wait to see what is going to happen about the money.

We all have high hopes for the new year and are looking forward to doing new work and working with new people.

Here is a poem I wrote.

The year has gone so fast,
I hope its not the last,
Christmas time is here you know,
When all the lights are out on show.

When I say to you,
Merry Christmas to all you too,
because will know to say tonight,
everything will be all right.

Merry Christmas I will say,
Just to make your day.
Happy New Year as well,
Let us ring your bell.

Hope New Year will bring us luck,
Not all fear and all that muck.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A GREAT NEW YEAR

Geocaching at Sandringham

Today the Compass Group went to Sandringham Park, it was packed as the Flower Festival was on so we decided to ramble through the woods. David brought his GPS again so we went to look for a cache that was hidden in the trees. These are the pictures of our day.

We found the rough area using an OS map and compass, then it was time to switch on the GPS.

The trail took us into the woods searching for the right spot.

After some effort we found it!!!

And wrote in the log book and swapped some stuff from the cache.

Everyone said this was some of the best fun they had had in ages and want to do this lots more, we all said that geotrackeruk hid a very good cache and we hope they will do lots more, we looked on Dave's phone and saw that there are loads all around us so we will do this again.

We had a lovely day and say thank you to geotrackeruk.

Ruth, Paul, Lily, Shane and Rose.

COMPASS GROUP TRIP TO HUNSTANTON

WEDNESDAY 29TH JUNE 2011

The Kings Lynn Self Advocacy Group went on an outing to Hunstanton.  Shane and I got on the bus at Kings Lynn bus station at 9.25am and arrived at Hunstanton Bus Station at about 10.15am and walked up to the White Lighthouse and met up with David and Rosie at 10.45am.

Once we had met up we walked down to the beach.

David allowed me to hold the GPS Machine, this is a machine that tells you how many feet you are from the box and which direction to go in.  Also if you have difficulty in finding the box as we did it will give you a description of where it is located, but sadly despite all the searching we did not find the box which is called Geocache.

After all our searching we decided to stay on the beach and have our lunch. Shane brought scones and pork pies, I brought some Skips and Hula Hoops and we shared it amongst ourselves.  After lunch we sat and had a chat about other meetings etc and then David asked us if we would like a cup of tea and we all said yes and walked back up to the Lighthouse Cafe and had a very nice cup of tea.  As David had to take his car to the garage in Kings Lynn he offered to give us a lift home.

A lovely day was had by all.

SAP Homewise Project

West Norfolk Self Advocacy Project is a user led advocacy project that has been in existence since 2003. Many people have to start living on their own. This change is because parents are getting old or have died, or it may be that people are being moved from sheltered housing where they have lived for many years, out into the wider community. Whatever the reason, people suddenly have to look after themselves, and a household, totally on their own for the first time.

Homewise supports, advises and teaches people all the things that they need to know about managing themselves; their home; their money and essential bills.

Homewise actively encourages people to share experiences and skills in a tough, honest yet safe and caring environment where reality, respect, responsibility and rights are held to be very important.

Homewise meetings are held every Wednesday from 10 until 12 noon.

Shane Malster

I am Shane Malster, chair of West Norfolk Self Advocacy Project. This is the first time i write the blog on my own.

So what’s happened since the last blog? I have been team leader for the last Compass Group outing and I have written and done a trail round Lynn hoping that the group will like it.

We have now in the garden with a small allotment to help us work and care for food. Let’s hope we can keep on going on the allotment and Ruth and Paul are working to make it go the right way.

With the rest of SAP everything is going well. Maths and English and badminton plus the meetings are all going strong. Maths, everybody doing well and hopeful to reach the top with another new member and three new members in English. No one has worries and we are enjoying it all the way.

Going back to the Compass Group we now done the trail I wrote. So the group has gone up in my eyes and they gave me good feedback on my trail and hopefully I can take the group out again within the next few months so good.
